MCAT Prep 2017 Applicant’s Guide

Thank you for your interest in attending one or both of our MCAT preparatory programs in 2017. This page will help you complete your application.

2018 MCAT preparatory programs:

  • Pre-Medical Summer Scholars — A 6-week MCAT preparation facilitated by Kaplan Test Prep and AMCAS and interview preparation facilitated by the first-year medical students.
    • Program date: June 18 to July 27, 2018
  • Final MCAT Preparation — A 2-week final comprehensive review for the MCAT facilitated by the first-year medical students.
    • Program date: June 4 to June 15, 2018
  • Both of the programs above share the same online application forms.

Pre-Medical Summer Scholars (formerly known as USSEP II)

Application deadline: Friday, March 16, 2018 — the CDA must receive all your application material by this date.

Application Checklist

  • MCAT Prep Program Application Part 1
  • MCAT Prep Program Application Part 2
  • Official Transcript from every college you have attended. Transcripts must be sent directly by your college or university. Contact the college registrar to send official transcript(s) to the address below.
  • 2 Letters of Recommendation — written by people familiar with your academic work in the science courses (faculty or instructor); one (1) letter may be from your research mentor or academic advisor. Letters of evaluation are required to be sent directly from the writers on organization letterhead.
  • Non-refundable $25 Application Fee as a check payable to UAMS Center for Diversity Affairs is required to complete your application. Please mail the check to the address listed at the bottom of this page.
  • Upon acceptance, a $50 Program Fee as a check payable to UAMS Center for Diversity Affairs is required to hold your seat. Please mail the check to the address listed at the bottom of this page.
  • See Eligibility section below for an additional requirement

Information

  • Location: University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences Little Rock campus.
  • Stipend: A $600 stipend is provided to program participants, which will be distributed in two (2) installments.
  • Housing: Students with address outside of reasonable commuiting distance (45 miles) will be hosed in the UAMS residential hall at 4601 W. Markham St., 72205.
  • Health Insurance: Students must submit proof of health insurance for participation.

Final MCAT Preparation (formerly known as the Spring MCAT)

  • 1 Letter of Recommendation — written by a person familiar with your academic work in the science courses (faculty or instructor).

Eligibility

To be eligible for participation in these programs (Pre-Med Summer Scholars and/or Final MCAT Prep), the student must meet one (1) or more of the following three (3) criteria:

Having an educational disadvantage: Defined as a student that comes from an environment which has inhibited their attainment of knowledge, skills, and abilities required to enroll in and graduate from a health professions school.

     OR

Having an economic disadvantage: Based on the parental income and the number and ages of dependents in a household, as established by these federal poverty guidelines (200%). Includes only dependents listed on Federal income tax forms: Low-Income Levels for 2017
